About our school

Lake Wangary School has earned the reputation of being a happy and dynamic school. We provide a high-quality educational service that is well resourced with professional and knowledgeable staff who work in partnership with the families and community to provide a program of learning opportunities that is responsive to the needs of our students. Students come predominately from Coffin Bay, some 15kms from the school, with students also coming from the growing communities of Dutton Bay, Farm Beach and Wangary itself. We also service the communities of Coulta and Wanilla with the majority of students travelling to school by bus. We have all worked very hard on developing a set of school values which reflect our beliefs. These are embedded throughout our school and are the foundations of our school culture; Creativity, Resilience and Responsibility.

Our school offers a broad and balanced curriculum with a focus on Problem Solving and Expeditionary Learning. The learning program is complemented by our Minya Custodians program, Indonesian, a variety of sporting events, student leadership programs, visiting performing artists and opportunities for student voice through SRC.

The Governing Council is an active and important part of the school, involved in policy development and review, fundraising, and grounds improvement.

Our vision

At Lake Wangary School, we are guided by the belief that the environment is our greatest teacher. Through our unique Minya Custodian program and classroom learning experiences, we cultivate a deep sense of belonging, nurturing connections to the land, community, and traditional owners. We promote sustainability and cultural diversity, upholding respect at the heart of all we do.

Our vision is to inspire creativity and curiosity by offering engaging opportunities for hands-on exploration and inquiry-based learning. We foster an environment where honesty and open-mindedness are valued and where students build resilience through challenge and collaboration.

We empower all learners to develop responsibility for themselves, others, and the world around them. By cultivating integrity, resilience, and respect, our students grow into responsible, creative, and honest individuals—equipped to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future.

At Lake Wangary School, we honour the past and confidently shape a better tomorrow, driven by creativity, strengthened by resilience, and committed to responsibility.

Our values

  • Creativity – We express ourselves and our ideas through imagination, innovation and being unique.
  • Resilience – We keep going when it feels challenging and remember that mistakes help us learn and grow.
  • Responsibility – We own our actions, we are reliable and we understand that our choices affect ourselves and others.

Our facilities

Gymnasium

Inside our gym is a  basketball court, which is also designed for netball and volley ball. The gym has an evaporative air conditioner and temporary staging which allows us to host assemblies, visiting performers and whole school events like concerts and graduation ceremonies.

Playgrounds and Play Spaces

Our playground is a hive of activity each recess and lunch.  Students also have access to an outdoor basketball court, netball court, sand pit, outdoor chess, handball spaces and a nature play area.

Oval

We have a fully fenced oval, bordered by beautiful Red-gums. The oval is used for a range of sports and activities over the course of the school year.

Greenhouse

In conjunction with the Lower Eyre Coastcare group, we have a fully operational native plant nursery. Each year students and volunteers use tube-stock raised in our shade house, to complete revegetation work at local sites.
