Wellbeing at Lake Wangary School

At Lake Wangary School, wellbeing is a fundamental priority, ensuring that every student has the right to feel safe and supported within the school community. The school is committed to creating an inclusive and nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and socially. By fostering a culture of respect and understanding, the school actively engages with students, families and staff to promote a positive and supportive atmosphere. Wellbeing programs and activities are implemented to enhance learning and personal development, while connections with external supports and services are facilitated to address individual needs. Through these efforts, Lake Wangary School strives to empower every student to reach their full potential in a safe and caring environment.

Rebecca Paterson - Wellbeing Teacher

The Autism Inclusion and Wellbeing Teacher role at Lake Wangary School supports student wellbeing, inclusion and belonging, priority areas in the Department’s Strategy for Public Education. The role includes regular wellbeing check-ins with students and support for families navigating challenges with their child’s wellbeing. It also involves working alongside neurodiverse students and their families to support their learning journey, helping navigate diagnosis, funding support and One Plan development in partnership with families and classroom teachers. Together, this ensures every learner can thrive and achieve.

Donella Taylor - Pastoral Care Worker

As a Pastoral Care Worker (PCW) at Lake Wangary School, I support students, staff, and families within a caring, close-knit community. The school values strong relationships and encourages every student to achieve their best.
A key part of my role is providing practical and emotional support to students. By building trusting relationships, I help them feel safe, supported, and confident in their learning environment.
I also strengthen the school community through acts of service, including assisting with events, supporting classroom programs, and helping where needed. One of my favourite responsibilities is preparing and cooking lunches for students twice each term.
The role requires patience, empathy, flexibility, and strong communication skills. Each day brings opportunities to encourage students, celebrate successes, and provide support during challenges. Working alongside teachers and staff, I contribute to a team approach focused on student wellbeing and development.
Being a PCW at Lake Wangary School is both fulfilling and inspiring. Making a positive difference in students’ lives while contributing to a supportive school culture is a privilege I greatly enjoy.

Toasty Tuesday

There is breakfast available at the school on Tuesday mornings from 8.30am. Fruit, toast, & orange juice are on the menu.

Please contact the school if you are able to help out for an hour on a Tuesday from 8.10am to 9.10am.

Foody Fundraisers

Foody fundraisers are a valued part of life at Lake Wangary School, bringing our school community together while raising funds for special programs, resources, and events. Throughout the year, with the help of families, staff, and volunteers we cook for the students. These fundraisers not only help generate much-needed funds for the school but also provide students with positive experiences and a delicious lunch twice a term.  The success of our foody fundraisers reflects the generosity, teamwork, and strong community values that make Lake Wangary School such a welcoming and supportive place.

Buddy Classes

The Preschool and 5/6 Buddy Classes at Lake Wangary School are an integral part of fostering a nurturing and inclusive school environment. This program pairs younger students with older peers, promoting cross-age friendships and a sense of community. Through regular interactions, such as shared activities and collaborative projects, students develop social skills, empathy and leadership qualities. The older students serve as role models, providing guidance and support, while the younger children benefit from the encouragement and companionship. This initiative not only enhances the school culture and supports transition into school but also contributes to the personal growth and confidence of all participants.
